It is also believed that the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra was given by Lord Shiva to Sage Shukracharya who later passed on it to Rishi Dadhici, who further passed it on to King Kshuva, through whom it was added in Shiva Purana. He gave it to Sati, the daughter of Daksha, to help Moon who was in trouble due to the curse by Daksha. Rishi Markandeya was the only person who knew about the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. It also leads to victory over the cycle of birth and death leading to Moksha.
